Introducing Common Core Standards

Something amazing is about to happen in your child's education!  The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are coming! This is so big, we believe you will want to know more about its positive effects on your child.

The Common Core State Standards:

     •  Focus on the development of critical and independent thinking skills
     •  Raise academic expectations for all children
     •  Emphasize problem solving over surface level learning
     •  Encourage college and career readiness
     •  Deepen each child’s creativity and ingenuity
     •  Optimize the resources and time needed to master all learning objectives

     •  Maintain our nation's rich tradition of exceptionalism and entrepreneurialism.

As a child’s first teacher, parents have a vested interest and obligation to educate their children. The Common Core State Standards will magnify parents’ efforts to help each child achieve their maximum academic potential.

About the Common Core State Standards

     •  The CCSS: A State Initiative

The Common Core State Standards were initiated by the states, not the federal government. Nearly every state in our nation has adopted the CCSS.

     •  Proven Practices Inspired the CCSS
Success is the best model.  Inspired by the standards of the highest achieving states and countries, CCSS align educational expectations with  practices  necessary to succeed in an ever-changing world.

     •  The CCSS Anticipate Success
CCSS prepare all students for a successful career and further education in college or other post-secondary learning institutions by strategically emphasizing the acquisition of knowledge and the development of critical thinking skills with real-world applications. A further focus on technical reading and writing bolsters confidence as children successfully apply the principles they learn.

     •  The CCSS Provide a Common Standard to Evaluate Effectiveness
Assessment results under the CCSS will promote more meaningful comparisons between states, learning programs, and teaching methods. This will lead to a greater sharing of teaching and learning resources across the states and among professional educators and parents. Parents and teachers in other states can finally have the same conversation about expectations and how we can help each other succeed.
