Why Common Core Standards

Why Common Core?

Please view this short, three minute video that explains the genesis of the Common Core Standards.

Standards set expectations for what students should know and do. Curriculum describes how the standards will be taught. Assessments measure the level of knowledge and its application against the established standards. The CCSS establish a set of standards that have proven to be necessary for student success while providing a common measurement that allows for a true comparison across the nation and the world. Armed with a true indication of a child’s learning, parents and teachers can adapt their teaching to provide the interventions and enrichments needed for each child to be successful.

How Do the CCSS Measure My Child’s Academic Achievement?

Arizona will be administering the Partnership of Assessment and Readiness of College and Careers (PARCC) assessment instead of AIMS beginning in the 2014-15 school year. PARCC is aligned to the CCSS in English Language Arts and Math.
