Writing and reading are integrated within the CCSS. With the CCSS, creative skills are not only demonstrated in narrative writing, but in analytical writing as well.

Some shifts in writing objectives under the CCSS are featured below:



     •  A greater emphasis on analytical writing (i.e., articulating issues and writing to inform and explain)
     •  An increase in short, focused research projects that cover several subject areas
     •  An enhanced awareness of writing styles to match multiple subject areas
